Vicmap Position-GPSnet™ Vision Statement Be a leader in the provision of a world-class, high accuracy, positioning utility that demonstrates value. Mission Statement We will develop effective partnerships with industry, government and academia. Together we will design, build, operate, maintain and deliver the authoritative state-wide CORS network. This network will deliver services that demonstrate economic, environmental and social benefits. The Department of Sustainability and Environment through Spatial Information Infrastructure (SII) has coordinated and facilitated the development of GPSnet™ in cooperation with industry, all levels of government, academia and the community. GPSnet™ is a Continuously Operation Reference Station (CORS) network that provides state-wide GNSS satellite position correction data to users. GPSnet™ CORS span the state delivering a range of GNSS correction services. SII is continuously seeking new hosts, partners, and contributors to help densify GPSnet™ to better support its users. Hosts, partners and contributors gain access to network services in exchange for helping develop GPSnet™. GPSnet™ is a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) augmentation infrastructure that provides real-time GNSS position correction information wirelessly via the Internet, state-wide. GPSnet™ position and navigation solutions deliver homogeneous and high accuracy, GDA compliant solutions to users. GPSnet™ generates a state-wide Networked Differential GNSS (Networked DGNSS) solution, with a nominal horizontal accuracy better than one metre using networked reference stations spaced at up to a few hundred kilometres apart. GPSnet™ also generates a Networked Real-Time Kinematic (NRTK) solution with a horizontal accuracy of +/- 20mm with reference station separations of less than 70kms. The ultimate aim is to deliver NRTK solutions state-wide. GPSnet™ is a trademark registered to the Crown in the Right of the State Of Victoria (Trade Mark Number : 820035 first registered on 17-JAN-2000) which gives the legal right to use it within Australia for goods and services for which it was registered (ie Class: 9 Computer software, surveying and measuring instruments). For further information about the system and how it works please visit: GNSS Publications. Positioning Regional Victoria (PRV) project In its May 2008 budget the Victorian Government committed funds to the Positioning Regional Victoria (PRV) project to extend Vicmap Position’s NRTK high accuracy positioning correction service state-wide in a five stage prioritised rollout from 2008 through to 2011. The availability of consistent and high quality NRTK corrections across the State will provide an infrastructure that will enable private industry, government, academia and communities to achieve cost savings and improved efficiencies. Victoria’s farmers are expected to be key beneficiaries, with cost savings and improved productivity yields that will help improve their national and global competitiveness. DSE anticipates, in addition to the existing 500 registered GPSnet users with 50 simultaneous NRTK GPSnet users, over 5000 Registered users and 500-1000 simultaneous NRTK users in the next 5-10 years. To learn more about PRV please visit: Positioning Regional Victoria (PRV). This document was last reviewed on 30/10/2009.
