Vision for Geodesy in Victoria
The Department of Sustainability and Environment's (DSE) vision is to improve Victoria's Geodetic framework to meet the needs of all future users, by providing a "geodetic framework which provides easy access to accurate positioning information, to a consistent standard across the entire State of Victoria, for all users". In pursuing this aim, the State Geodetic framework has been designed to:
- support state-wide positioning in a way which is economic and efficient for users;
- maintain the same minimum accuracy across the entire state
- use technology which is compatible with that preferred by the full range of users;
- meet the needs of existing and future users;
- be affordable to both Government and users, making it viable for the long-term;
- be consistent with the overall national framework; and
- do this within the overall national framework managed by Geoscience Australia's National Mapping Division (NMD - formerly AUSLIG)
DSE is not only responsible for managing the geodetic network, but also for maintaining cadastral (Title) and surveying standards.
