Metadata Guidelines for Victoria
Metadata is the key management mechanism for Victoria’s geospatial information environment. A major determinant of the benefit achieved through the Victorian Geospatial Information Strategy (VGIS) will be the extent to which metadata is used as a fundamental component of information management systems, and incorporated as part of best practice for information management.
The purpose of Geospatial Information Metadata Guidelines for Victoria is to define the metadata requirements for inclusion in directory systems so that potential users are aware of existing geospatial or geographic data and can assess its suitability for their purposes. The guidelines also define the metadata to accompany data transfers to users, and provide guidance for detailed metadata to assist data management within agencies.
