Aerial Photography and Satellite Imagery
The Victorian Government has a rich source of aerial photography and satellite imagery, which can be purchased in either digital or print formats. The Department of Sustainability and Environment offers the Coordinated Imagery Program to facilitate the acquisition of new aerial photography and satellite imagery.
Aerial Photography is a digital image or analogue (film) photograph collected by a camera on an aeroplane. Aerial Photography provides a bird's eye view of the earth's surface and is used in a variety of applications - mapping, planning, tourism, landcare and environmental management.

Satellite Imagery, in most cases, is a digital image collected by a sensor on a satellite orbiting the earth. These sensors receive information across different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum and then return this information in the form of an image. These images can then be used to view features on the earth, such as land use, mineral deposits and bush fire damage.

The Coordinated Imagery Program (CIP) coordinates the purchase of aerial photography and satellite imagery across Victoria for a range of government and non-government organisations. The program is designed to facilitate all your imagery needs, reduce costs, avoid duplication and to contract manage your project.

The Victorian Image Directory allows you to search for aerial photography and satellite imagery projects, both past and proposed, which meet your requirements. Your search can specify what area of Victoria you are interested in (called a Map Search) and the details of the imagery you want (called a Project Search)
