Locality Names and Boundaries (Maps by Municipality)
Localities can be bounded suburbs, towns and rural districts (that is have an official boundary), or unbounded neighbourhoods (that is have no official boundary). Local councils determine the locality names and boundaries within their municipalities in accordance with the procedures set out in the Guidelines for Geographic Names (October 2004).
VICNAMES is Victoria's repository for the current maps of locality names and boundaries. The locality names represented on the maps have been approved for registration by the Registrar of Geographic Names as notified in the Victoria Government Gazette. These maps have been specifically produced to be downloaded and printed out in either black and white or full colour. If you have a printed copy check the version number and the date to ensure it is not a superseded version.
To check the status of a proposed boundary change refer to current proposals.
