How to Navigate the Land Channel

Site Navigation

The Land Channel logo at the top of the user interface links you to the initial splash screen.
  • "Home" - returns you to the home page which provides access to all sections of the site.
  • "Help" - displays this help information.
  • "Feedback" - provides a way for you to contact us and provide information to help us continually improve the site based on your needs.
  • "Privacy" - the Land Channel privacy description for information and services provided.
  • "About" - provides an overview of the Land Channel.
  • "Site Map" - displays an outline view of all sections of the site.
Triangles - Expanding and Collapsing Document Lists
Small triangles that appear in the document window next to a category name indicate that there are additional documents and/or categories within that category. A triangle pointing to the right indicates that the category is collapsed. A triangle pointing down indicates that the category is expanded. To toggle between the two views, simply click the triangle. Keeping categories collapsed makes it easier to navigate through larger numbers of documents.

Scrolling
To scroll down the document window, click on the down arrow at the bottom right corner of the document window, or use the down arrow on your keyboard. To scroll up the document window, click and hold the up arrow at the top right corner of the document window or use the up arrow on your keyboard. In the column, between the up and down arrows on your screen, a grey square indicates the current position within the document window. This page position indicator can also be manoeuvred directly by clicking (and holding) on the grey square and dragging it to the required position in the document window.

Using the back button in Netscape
The Land Channel has implemented a function that automatically opens a document when there is a single document under a heading. This automatic launching function does not perform correctly in a Netscape browser.

A single click on the browser back button will return you to the same document. To overcome this click on the "Go" menu to select a previous document or re-select the relevant navigation on the left hand side of the page.

Structure of Information

To make it easier to use, the Land Channel organises information from the perspective of the user, rather than government structure.

You will find the information topics displayed in the navigation panels at the left of your screen under the headings of the typical "life events" and decision points faced by people dealing with land issues. You may follow the topics as they cascade down a particular line of thought. At any time you may change your path, by simply choosing another one. You will be able to reach the same information through a number of paths within the site. Information can be viewed on screen or printed out for later reference. To bookmark a particular document click on the "Click here before bookmarking" button at the top of the page and then select Bookmarks or Favourites in your browser.

The Land Channel will not be replacing the various agency sites, nor the expertise that they contain, so for specific details you may need to follow up by contacting the agencies direct - by phone, in person or on the Internet.
