It’s now easier than ever to search, order and download Victorian spatial data with DataShare. Launched by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), DataShare replaces Spatial Datamart with all the same capabilities and more.

This powerful new tool gives users access to spatial data from DELWP including Vicmap, fire mapping, planning, biodiversity, water and climate change. Vicmap is Victoria’s authoritative suite of state-wide foundational spatial data.

The launch follows extensive customer engagement and user testing. Discover a simpler interface and better end-to-end experience with new features including:

  • Improved search results
  • Map-based search
  • Improved user interface, including mobile optimisation
  • File geodatabase format available for download
  • Upload shape files to use as cookie cutters
  • Integration with DELWP Spatial IDAM service (login and authentication)

Regular users can also create an account to access additional features, including repeat orders and order history.

DataShare is the most comprehensive catalogue of Victorian spatial data. There are more than 800 datasets available for everyone to download and use.

Government, industry, research, academia can use DataShare to access the latest Victorian spatial data. Find spatial data from across DELWP, including vector points, lines and polygons, as well as aspatial tables.

Customers can expect the same and improved level of service from the new DataShare platform. You will be able to access all datasets previously on Spatial DataMart.

DataShare also delivers an improved end-to-end experience for customers who use Data.Vic to access all Victorian government open data.

Victoria’s Open Data Program aims to provide the widest variety of data users with the broadest opportunity to create, experiment and innovate using public data.

DataShare is one of a number of ways we’re improving access to Victorian spatial data. We have also recently announced a beta release for Vicmap as a Service (VVaaS). VaaS means customers can now retrieve Vicmap data via web services and API’s, as an option to downloads and file transfer methods.

Victorian spatial data provides the foundation to systems we rely on every day. Spatial data is accessed more than 100 million times a year across Victorian Government platforms, supporting essential services, industry and innovation across the Victorian economy.

Spatial data helps us navigate our world, changes how we build cities, deliver services, run businesses and how we manage and protect our environment.

Launch DataShare

DataShare will be working side-by-side with Spatial Datamart during a transition period, with Spatial Datamart due to be decommissioned by the end of 2021.
