Geographic Names Victoria receives naming applications from naming authorities to:

  • name or rename a feature or road
  • name a locality, or
  • amend a locality boundary

Status of proposals

Once approved by the Registrar of Geographic Names the process can take up to 10 working days.  Details then go to Land Information Spatial Services to update VICNAMES and Vicmap (the state's authoritative dataset).
