How we manage valuations for government

Valuer-General Victoria (VGV) manages valuations in accordance with an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.

We manage in-house valuations and also outsource valuations through a panel of valuers. These members provide us with valuations for government purposes.

Quality management

All our valuations processes are audited annually. This includes both:

  • in-house valuation processes audit
  • outsourced Valuations Services (VSP).

We will also facilitate a dispute resolution conference where:

  • agreement cannot be reached on two or more valuations, and
  • one valuation is certified

VGV will facilitate a dispute resolution conference when an agreement cannot be reached on two or more valuations for the:

  • Purchase
  • Sale
  • Lease
  • or compulsory acquisition of a property
  • and, where one valuation is certified VGV will facilitate a dispute resolution conference.

Land transaction policy and guidelines

To ensure the government of probity, we follow the the Victorian Government Land Transactions Policy.

Certification process

We perform valuations either inhouse or outsourced through the VGV panel of valuers.

Depending on type of work and sensitivity, VGV performs valuation in-house or project manages an outsourced valuation through the VGV panel of valuers.

We certify approximately 4000 valuation requests each year. Of these, the VSP completes about 80 per cent and VGV completes about 20 per cent in-house.

We assist agencies with all types of government valuations. These follow the same high-quality management processes as our other services.
