Newly registered licensed surveyors across both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 financial years were recognised in the first online Conferral of Registration Ceremony.

Annual ceremonies are traditionally face-to-face, but in light of Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, things were done a little differently. The Surveyors Registration Board of Victoria (the Board) hosted the ceremony online in December 2021, welcoming around 100 guests and conferring registration upon 19 newly registered licensed surveyors.

The Board is responsible for the registration of licensed surveyors in Victoria. This includes both the maintenance of existing registrations and oversight of the pathway to registration for graduate surveyors.

Each year the Board holds a registration ceremony. New registrants are a mix of surveyors who are already licensed in another jurisdiction and those who have successfully completed all their examinations in a Professional Training Agreement.

A highlight of the event was a keynote address by Land Use Victoria’s Chief Executive Melissa Harris. Melissa spoke about current projects in land and property and demonstrated why licensed surveyors are so critical to Victoria. Her speech also reflected on the history of licensed surveyor registration in Victoria, from the first licensed surveyor, Albert William Craven in March 1896, to the first female licensed surveyor, Susan Argus in 1992, to the evening’s most recent batch of registrants up to LS number 2091.

Prizes of excellence were awarded to newly registered licensed surveyors Francis Goh, Michelle Frew and Michael Chionna who achieved the best overall results in their Professional Training Agreement.
